OGClub Presents: Elament – The Days Before The Club
OGClub recently presented the latest release from the West London Hip Hop collective, with ‘The Days Before The Club’, a mixtape from producer Elament that compiles his production with features from fellow OGClub artists Rebel, JBJust Business, BigHomieCee, as well as Showzie, Rdp and contributing production from Sahil Sharma. The Days Before The Club suggests that the mixtape’s lyrical content generally depicts the previously experienced lifestyle before blowing up and obtaining success, with the title track taking you back in time to old days before the recognition, with tracks like ‘Put Em On’ delving in to subjects such as hate, but also Elament states his intentions to look after family, but both tracks share the same theme of grinding.
In contrast, the production style takes a turn from sauntering trap to pounding, bass heavy trapesque instrumentals. Elament proves his realness as he stresses his need to get money on ‘Real Recognise Real’, and on the follow up track ‘Fuck Em All’ featuring Rdp, both will stop at nothing to get it, even if it means taking out rivals. Elament rhymes about the bright lights in the city rolling around with a team getting money on ‘Night Life’. Elament shows his love for his city once again on ‘My City’ as he firmly states that he puts it down for his city, but with the line ‘if we make then we out’, he emphasizes that he has bigger dreams than staying in the hood. ‘How It Goes’ returns to the more tranquil, chilled out sounds of the first two tracks, as Elament and Rebel rhyme about smoking up and hitting the clouds, and drinking alcohol too as the roll out. JBJustBusiness joins Elament on ‘Up Up & Away’ which both also produce together, the title being a metaphor for the vibes that they get when chilling with a girl. ‘Over My Shoulder’ locks in to the paranoia that Elament and BigHomieCee experience, looking back constantly, but contradictory to the hook, Elament states he isn’t scared to die any more, whilst BigHomieCee rhyming about keeping a look out all around him for his enemies and rivals. Rebel is featured on ‘All I Know’ produced by Elament and Sahil Sharma also of OGClub, as the lyricists emphasize that grinding is all they know, as they rhyme about a constant grind and rolling around with their team. ‘We The Sh_’ plays out this mixtape, with Elament displaying a lot of confidence and belief in himself and his team.
Once again as with previous releases from OGClub, there is focus on the grind and getting paid by any means, brushing haters and all obstacles aside, and with the objective of finally making out of their hood whereas the loyalty towards their city and team stays. Elament himself serves up quality trap/rap production, whilst other members of OGClub chip in to what seems like another team effort.
