Stana – H.M.P (Hear My Pain)

East London Rapper Stana finally dropped one of the more anticipated UK Rap mixtapes of this year so far, with his latest project which is called ‘H.M.P’, or Hear My Pain, which is a play on the fact that he is using this mixtape as a channel to express his pain, anger and some of his candid life stories, and also derives from Stana having finished off a lengthy prison sentence. The mixtape features some of the hottest names in the UK Rap scene, including Ghetts, Young Spray, Snap Capone, Colours Miyagi, Potter Payper, Tanna and much more, with production credits including Top Dolla, Self Taught and Kid D. Stana seems focused on this mixtape, as he stresses the pain in his life, chronicling his younger years in which he learned the ways of life in the hood, asking you not to judge, on ‘Spoken Word’ which features bare minimal production, with spoken by Nego True, the loss of friends and pleading for change on ‘Frog In My Throat’ which features Stana possessing furious delivery yet emotional lyrical content on a hard hitting Hip Hop beat. Stana rhymes about a broken family life and heartache from an early age, as well as being in and out of jail on ‘Ridiculous’. The title track is a track filled with overwhelming sadness as Stana rhymes about missing time with his kids due to knuckling down with music to make a better life for them, trying to stay away from the road hype. Stana leaves the mixtape on this note, and is a good way and positive way to end it when you consider some of the more gully tracks including ‘Gang Wars’ on which he rhymes about the only life he knows of, addressing certain guys that have done him over, emphasizing the ramifications of stepping to him. ‘Destroy & Rebuild’ is another track which Stana squashes old beefs yet letting it be known he still resents those guys he left behind, yet stating that he only focused on rebuilding the Leyton Rap scene. Stana also puts down tracks like ‘Cats’ featuring DTM, an ultra Trap banger which depicts the busy trappings of the street life, catering to their clients. ‘My Own Worst Enemy’ lets you in to the Trap, as Stana is joined by Tanna and Uni, revealing that whilst he turned to crime, he is a product of his environment and never meant to be a gangster. Stana seems to wear his heart on his sleeve when it comes to his passion for the street life, yet on the flip side, he delivers some tracks that show remorse for his choice of lifestyle, knowing that he never wanted to become a gangster, and in between expressing his pain, he reveals good intentions and plans to change his future. This mixtape features some banging Trap and Rap tunes from one of UK Rap’s veteran artists, Leyton’s Stana, who knows the intricacies of the Trap and street life, and this is a gritty tail of Stana’s own life and experiences.
