UK Hip Hop Rapper Staxxy, hailing from Derby, recently dropped his new mixtape called ‘BoomBox’. The mixtape chronicles and conveys Staxxy’s hopes and dreams through life, the trials and tribulations on the course to obtaining his dream of being a musician, including feeling at times like no one supports him or gives him a chance.

Many of the songs feature Staxxy delivering heart-felt lyricism, which portrays his attitude towards achieving his goals, never lying down, grinding along with his team, never letting up on his one true love, music. Amongst some of my favorite/stand out tracks, ‘Your Feelings’, ‘Hold On’, ‘28.11.14’ and ‘Ready’ to name a few, which capture the pain and struggles which Staxxy faces, tracks like ‘Grinder’ and ‘Beast’ have Staxxy having fun with wordplay, as well as one or two on which Staxxy rhymes about the kind of woman he needs in his life, otherwise it is music.

The production featured on the mixtape is a throwback to the golden age of Hip Hop, with soulful Rap instrumentals and Boom-bap style beats. The vibe of these instrumentals help towards conveying the deep lyrical content, comparable to the likes of Big Narstie, that Staxxy puts down. Staxxy’s lyrics portray the sometimes stressful, unglamorous, grind that many face in pursuing their dreams, but his delivery is vigorous, similar to greats like 2Pac, and delivers his lyrics in a hungry, ferocious attack, as to resemble that he believes in himself and what he can achieve.

Staxxy is one of the more promising young, upcoming Hip Hop artists I’ve heard in a while in my opinion, especially from the UK. Staxxy keeps things real and personal on this mixtape, and his great choice of production, lyrical, flows and style just tell me that he is big lover of Hip Hop,one that has studied the game and perfected his whole style.
