Hailing from Birmingham, and with a local cult following, owing to his previous project aptly named ‘Local’, Yatez drops a new single ‘Drowning’. An unorthodox artist with a unique style, Yatez showcases his soulful, harmonious singing along with a blend of spoken word style rap, on a melodic and eclectic self-produced instrumental.

Yatez is an artist that prides himself on the deeper aesthetics of his music, including the instrumentation and production, with his audio output representing a masterclass in creating timeless records. Past releases include ‘Patience’, and ‘Do For Your Love’, premiered via GRM Daily, both of which are an insight into the depth and understanding that flow through the veins of a music maestro that is Yatez. ‘Drowning’ however is a breakthrough in Yatez’s musical evolution, and as he explains, “Drowning is a part of the most progressive body of work I’ve created to date in my career”. He continues, “We’ve all been there on a night out when someone is just being a bit too much when you’re trying to get on it. This song is about someone nausing you before you’re drunk enough.”

Although his discography isn’t vast at this moment, the relatable lyrical topics are anything but, with Yatez opting to pay careful attention to the delivery of his music, which is a testament to the essence of Yatez as an artist. He takes influence from R&B, Hip Hop and Grime, plus splashes of soulful Jazz, adding an electronic element into the mix, injecting pace and a modern, contemporary vibe to his studio-recorded work. Not only has Yatez honed his craft and refined his sound in the studio, he has focused on the live aspect of his music, stepping out on stages with a presence that is unmatched. Taken from his forthcoming double-loaded project ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ Pt. 1 & Pt. 2, due for release on 29/10/21 and 05/11/21 respectively, ‘Drowning’ is the first taste of what to expect to hear from the Birmingham native. With an accompanying video set to be revealed in the coming week, and supported by Birmingham-based label BE83, that are also behind major names including Jaykae, Smoke Boyz and Dapz On The Map, it’s shaping up to be a year end to remember for Yatez, as he gets set to take things to a new level.
