BigHomieCee – BlackBench EP

BigHomieCee has taken to soundcloud to release a 7 track project, ‘BlackBench’ EP, which was made last year yet released at the right time as BigHomieCee feels, stating “this is the best way to start the year off”. The BlackBench EP showcases BigHomieCee’s talents as he sets off on a solo rap career after departing West London collective OGC. The project features production by MeiserBeats, G91Sound, Silins Beats and many more, going from Trap bangers like the title track Black Bench, Born Broke But Ill Die Rich, to hard-edged tracks like My Hobby which also features fellow rapper Rick Ochi. All I Ever Wanted, which features singer Poppy, is the exception to the Trap vibes which BigHomieCee favours on the EP. The track has production from TantuBeats, and features tight drum kicks and a slow grinding melody that BigHomieCee spits rapid flows on, expressing all that he desire sin life, simply a car or two, delving in to a troubled past which is the reason he wishes for a peaceful life, and a plush place to call home. Poppy delivers stupendous vocals on the track, her background harmonious singing blending in well.
The EP as a whole features lyricism from BigHomieCee which depicts his own rags to riches story, growing up in his area, doing what he had to do to get by, and the title track features a hook and bars that resemble where you could have found him, same spot everyday trying to get paid however. Black Bench, produced by MeiserBeats, features a trapesque beat with a chilling piano-led melody and auto-tuned vocals on the hook, with the homie stressing that his life was a mess. Born Broke But Ill Die Rich possesses a bass-trembling trap beat by G91Sound, with BigHomieCee showcasing confident delivery and lyrics, conveying his constant grind that assures him he’ll die rich in contrast to how he started out. Take You Out Of Here is a track that sees BigHomieCee address his girl, telling her that she should roll with her as he will be taking her out of town once he gets it together. My Hobby is one of the most hardcore tracks on the EP, featuring Rick Ochi who displays skippy, fast-paced flows, as both rappers send a warning to those that may try to mess with their hustle.
BigHomieCee not relies, but favours auto-tune it seems, which may point to him being influenced by the Chicago Drill rap style, that often sees rappers filter their vocals through auto-tune. BigHomieCee showcases his talents on this EP that puts him up there with just about any other rapper in the UK or even overseas making similar music, and there’s no reason why he can’t be considered as good or even better than some.
