Shelly Ravid – Let Them Know EP
London-based Singer/Songwriter Shelly Ravid releases her debut Reggae EP “Let Them Know”, and is a four-track serving of Caribbean vibes, something you might not expect from someone with roots in the Middle East and Sweden. But Shelly Ravid has been playing in Reggae bands since the tender age of 13, and here she celebrates the Caribbean sounds she obviously grew up on. The four tracks are hardcore in nature, production-wise and lyrically hard hitting, as Shelly showcases political story telling, delving in to social injustices such as racism, domestic violence and masculinity. Whilst the production is rhythmic and designed to move the listener, the lyrics, written from the heart, are drawn from Shelly’s personal experiences, and the way in which she sings and delivers her rhymes will all move in another way, but also empower the listener. The lyricism from Shelly Ravid stays true to the characteristics of Reggae, and her love, passion and massive respect for the genre she has took up is evident.
Shelly teamed up with acclaimed Dub producer Indica Dubs last year, touring Italy, France and Belgium, where both did a warm up act for Channel One Sound System. As well as gigging for her own band, Shelly has did backing vocals for major Reggae artists like Earl Sixteen. She is currently working on a new project with Jamaican producer Alberto Blackwood and legendary duo Sly & Robbie. Stream the new EP below and look out for more from Shelly Ravid coming soon.
