Endemic Emerald and Skanks the Rap Martyr present their long awaited collaborative album opus entitled Rapsloitation. Producer Endemic Emerald met Brooklyn native Skanks, of Crown Heightsankai Fam, in mid-2013 when he first touched down in NYC. The duo built on the Nostrand Ave blocks and started to work instantly, sharing a similar stance on Hip Hop.
The album showcases Skanks as a lyrical assassin, his lyrics weighed down with substance and sharp flows over top notch production from Endemic. The production style of Endemic and the rhyming styles of Skanks combined provides a sound rich in East Coast Hip Hop flavour, raw and heavy hitting beats with soulful sampling that is reminiscent of NYC super groups such as Wu Tang Clan and Boot Camp Clik.
The album singles have so far been received with much praise, with support coming from Sway & King Tech on the wake up show, DJ Eclipse, PF Cuttin & coverage from Allhiphop.com, Insomniac magazine & Undergroudhiphopblog.com. Featured appearances come from Shabaam Sahdeeq, Ruste Juxx, Tragedy Khadafi, Mic Handz, DJ Ready Cee & Bankai Fam.
Several tracks that have already seen the light of day include ‘Trouble’ featuring E-Class, a melodically produced song about police brutality in the USA, where Skanks vents his anger and frustration, pleading for an end to the unprovoked violence. E-Class provides equally soulful vocals on the chorus for this powerful song. Another song directed at the law system is ‘Prison Riot’ featuring Ruste Juxx and Kasim Allah. From the streets to the cell blocks, it is apparent that these emcee’s are hell bent on revolting for all the injustices by rioting, bringing the street mentality to the wings of Rikers Island. The intense, bassy and slapping beat is provided by none other than Endemic.
‘Straight out da NYC’ featuring Shatike and Rim samples Ja Rule’s ‘New York’, and accompanied by a boom bap beat laden with scratches and references to New York City, this is a testament to Hip Hop, the trio of rappers showcasing that Hip Hop runs in their veins. Gritty, raw and lethal lyricism, no other rapper can challenge these lyrical assassins who spit with conviction and precision.
The album explores Skanks’ upbringing and surroundings, from life and death to poverty, crime and violence. He shares the pains of his life on ‘The pain of life’, ferociously rhyming about the trials and tribulations of his life. Skanks may have been through and seen some things but he mentions that his mother handed down to him some good qualities such as respect, but lets it be known that he can still be cold towards his enemies. ‘Mercy’ is Skanks’ plead for forgiveness of the sins he has committed in life, sometimes good-willed, to feed his family. A soulful and maybe emotional song, E-Class features on this one, delivering remarkable vocals towards the end of the song that would have been right at home on a Motown record from the likes of The Temptations.
