Girli is a London Pop artist, whose music encompasses everything from Rap to Punk/Rock, Electronica and Bubblegum Pop. Girli, real name Milly Toomey, has just released a new music video for the title track from her forthcoming Hot Mess EP. Girli brings with her an unapologetic attitude in her new single, rebelling against a “patriarchal music industry”. The visuals are a fun day in the life of Girli with a twist, as she is joined by her skater friends, who she was inspired by after she started skating earlier this year. The girl gang, known as the Bowl Babes, provide some of the garments that are worn by the girls in the video, and can be seen as skating squad of pink clones, the “pink punk girl skating Hot Mess crew”. The proud-to-be-pink Girli and her crew go around spreading her style, attitude and infecting them with her catchy sound, that they are soon a “patriarchy-smashing” pink-haired, skating crew.

While this anthemic, sing-a-long tune is trying to resist conforming, and rejecting the “patriarchal music industry”, is still appeals to the mainstream. However, it is so out there, rebellious, and left-wing that you can’t help but find Girli and the new single quite cool. Girli, who is influenced by M.I.A, GFOTY, Charli XCX, Brooke Candy, Kawaii, 90s Pop, Japanese Pop and more, aims to get the fans involved in her “pink wacky weirdness”, with her site promoting her well-organised, structured and thought out brand with fun, interactive links to lyrics, merch, music, live dates and social media. Even a fun, addictive game of Pacman, but with a Girli twist, where you have to avoid all of the social media.
