Coco continues his ascension with the release of his new single featuring legendary UK vocalist Shola Ama and fellow Sheffield emcee Deep Green. Produced by Toddla T, ‘Waters Run Deep’ was DJ Target’s Targo Embargo recently on his BBC Radio 1Xtra show, and it showcases a bass-rich, atmospheric, more mellow grime tune from Coco, as he launches in to a fast-paced deliverance of lyrics showing a “warmer, deeper side” to him. The rough vocals from Coco and Deep Green contrast the smoothness of Shola Ama’s beautiful vocals on the chorus, but overall, the beat and vocals having a mystery empathy about it.
2016 has been Coco’s defining year, the Sheffield emcee performed at Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing stage, alongside Stormzy at Ibiza Rocks, Red Bull’s Manchester Carnival, Notting Hill Carnival, Bestival and the Royal Albert Hall for Jamie Cullum’s BBC Proms, and performed at his first headline show at O2 Islington.
The last 18 months have seen him ascend from the Sheffield to a national star, with Complex labelling him one of ’15 MC’s Out Of London You Need To Know Today’, and being chosen as ‘One To Watch in 2016’ for MixMag by Annie Mac. He has released ‘Big N Serious’, along with a remix featuring MOBO nominees AJ Tracey and Nadia Rose, and his collaboration with Jamaica’s Protoje, and one of Reggae’s biggest stars, on a grime track ‘Ova Here’, which saw him travel to Jamaica to film a video and documentary. Coco has definitely launched himself in to the year as he meant to go on, truly inspirational with his releasing of music and work ethic overall.
