Courtney Bennett – J Dilla Appreciation

UK singer/song writer Courtney Bennett gives us a brand new captivating live performance, in which she performs a live rendition of a track from a couple of years ago entitled “Didn’t Have To Hurt”. In the performance, she takes Slum Village’s Hip Hop instrumental “Untitled (Fantastic)” and adds her own lyricism, rhyming about not letting anyone in to her heart to only experience heartbreak, ultimately losing the one you love, and stating the instead of letting your past run your future, choose for yourself whether take a leap of faith, and in her voice she captures the feeling of subject, especially when she hits the chorus which is a poem written by a friend, she sings along with the backing vocals with a sweet melody, really getting in to the moment, making you feel like she really is experiencing, harmonising wonderfully and not being led by the track. This is a great performance by Courtney, who displays two sides of her talent, MC’ing and singing beautifully, and I like how she connects with the beat, sounding many great Hip Hop lyricists with a superb flow. Tell us what you think . . .
