Legendary Hip Hop icon DJ Premier has teamed up with R&B Singer superstar Miguel for a new eclectic sounding song called 2 LOVIN U. This track oozes fun and good times, bringing the sunshine and summer early this year. Quite an unpredictable collaboration and one you wouldn’t have first thought of, the two revolutionaries of their own field make it work. Miguel previously teased his fans with a video snippet on his Instagram during his Wildheart album campaign, and left the fans were left in suspense when the track was mysteriously left off of the tracklist for the double-Grammy Award winning album.
Rocky guitars riffs, and splashes of Hip Hop undertones, DJ Premier adds scratches and a cheeky sample of Chris Tucker’s Smokey character from Friday. Miguel’s brilliant, out-going singing vocals are uplifitng in spirit, and the rhythmic beat just makes you all that more happy.
As DJ Premier declared when speaking on the situation: “Miguel and I were vibing at a session and just really seeing what we could come up with. What we came up with was a dope, but a rough version of what you hear today. Miguel and I had deadlines and we never got around to finishing it. We both really believed in this version of the track and we both felt very strongly that it needed to come out and be released as a single. Miguel and I approached the label about releasing it and everyone was on-board”.
Miguel previously stated he and Premier were always going to find a special way to release this track, now entitled ‘2 LOVIN U’, which they stuck to their word and did so. “The track having a different title gives it a new light” DJ Premier states as he warns “Wait until you see the video!”.
