Jaymal is back with brand new single and video for the new year, ‘Umbrella’. The single is a smooth, mellow Trap / R&B banger, with an accompanying music video from Manny of MSmedia. The song explores the encounter between Jaymal and female that has caught his attention, yet he witnesses how badly she has been treated by her boyfriend, yet she didn’t want to let go of him despite him being bad news. The song’s chorus being a metaphor for Jaymal offering her protection under his ‘umbrella’, the visuals portray a later scene in which the girl’s boyfriend acts aggressively towards her and leaves as it starts to rain. In steps Jaymal, taking the opportunity to talk and express his feelings, and allows her to take shelter under his umbrella, signalling it will all be alright.
Jaymal displays terrific soulful vocals on this track, and whilst Rihanna’s 2007 hit of the same name comes to mind for obvious reasons, Jaymal puts us in mind of the likes of Bryson Tiller, Tory Lanez and similar artists, blurring the lines between Trap, Hip Hop and R&B.
