LEMZI X INFERNO – #LEMZDAY X ON MY WAVE
Two of East London’s very own, Hip Hop Lyricist Lemzi and Rapper/Actor Inferno, both released BACK2BACK EPs to kick off the new year, #LEMZDAY and ON MY WAVE respectively. Track 1-5 is Lemzi’s selection of tracks. Boom Bap production on ‘No Pen or a Notepad’ which features Inferno sees Lemzi kick fantastic meandering flows, both bringing the real Hip Hop and natural rhyme and rhythm to your ears. Lemzi dedicates a couple of tracks to women, ‘Another One’ featuring Jakespeare which is another Boom Bap Hip Hop tune, where Lemzi rhymes about a woman with a loud attitude and always on a defence, taking her anger with certain guys out on him. ‘Touch’ featuring Rukea is a different vibe, a melodious Hip Hop track with a hard hitting beat and RnB vibes, and is a love song of sorts with lyrics that seem to put a girl of Lemzi’s love interests on a pedestal. ‘Mighty’ is a remix of Young Thug’s trap banger ‘Best Friend’ on which Lemzi addresses those that complain that his music “isn’t current”, so he takes to the beat delivering highly lyrical bars and displays breath-taking fast-paced flows. ‘Off The Dome’ is a 9 minute freestyle on an old school boom bap beat. Lemzi is thrown random subjects to spit about as he freestyles off the dome about things from #EXCLUSIVE to Black Jesus to Darwin Theory of Evolution. Lemzi does well to promote, inspire and motivate to positive movements.
Inferno’s ON MY WAVE kicks off with some Grime in form of a remix of the Rapid-produced Pepper Riddim, and is energetic display of rapid flows from #EXCLUSIVE artist Inferno. Inferno gets some things off his chest as he goes in attacking turn coats that only want something when you make it as well as those claiming they grind. Inferno follows this up with a freestyle entitled ‘Nocturnal’ which is a variation of DJ XTC’s Functions On The Low, recently revived by Stormzy’s Shut Up. Inferno is on his wave on the title track, a banging bass-heavy trap tune with an infectious orchestral melody, with Inferno displays his range of impressive flows and bars, expressing a love for East London and stating his plan to make P’s amongst other things. ‘Treat Me Like Somebody’ rounds out the EP and is something different from Inferno once again, and like Lemzi, Inferno produces a love song with lyrics depicting his search for his queen and what he can offer his lady. The production is a slow Hip Hop beat with a sauntering guitar riff, which Inferno practically delivers double time flows over effortlessly.
The first release from the #EXCLUSIVE team this year, and it showcases new material from Lemzi, whoo is a fantastic lyricist and who’s messages are nothing but positive as he holds the banner for true, real Hip Hop music. Also, my first introduction to Inferno is good, as he seems like a versatile MC with a range of flows and and extensive lyrical content just like Lemzi himself. Inferno bounces from Grime to Hip Hop to Trap, and even alternative production like the last track on his EP. Stream the two EPs below and leave us your feedback in the comments section . . .
