The Grime Show: D Double E, Footsie, Riko Dan & Slimzee
Sir Spyro recently bought you his weekly live Grime show on Rinse FM, which featured East London MC’s D Double E and Footsie, aka Newham Generals, alongside fellow East LDN compatriots and mc’s Riko Dan and Slimzee, of pioneer Grime/UK Garage crews Roll Deep and Pay As U Go respectively. From the off, Spyro and Slimzee both dropped some of the gulliest, grimiest instrumentals, rich in bass and snares, laying down the foundations for the foursome to shell down bars. It was impressive for the likes of D Double E and Footsie who provided adlibs for each others bars, as they went back to back trading bars. The DJs continued to spin some bassline grime beats, as well as some old school grime for the likes of Riko Dan to spray his bars, going in with rapid flows, and there were various styles on display, from the likes of D Double E’s trademark style, his skippy flow, Riko’s ragga/grime style, Footsie’s gritty, hard-edged and rough delivery. The energy in this set was impalpable, but you could certainly feel it, as the mc’s went ham with wheel up bars and much more gully lyricism.
