Dikulz – Dikulz EP
Dikulz (Brainsick Muzik) rounded of the decade last month with the release of his eponymous seven-track EP. Prodlembeatz, who has previously worked with Dikulz on the ‘Concrete Snow Angel’ release, stars on the production credits on five tracks.
The first of which is called ‘Joogernaut’. A testament to his work ethic, Dikulz details his hunger and determination to work harder than the competition, to obtain profits from his skills. Straight off the bat, Dikulz serves you fast-flowing skippy lyricism on an eerie, bass-pounding beat, the first of many produced by Prodlem.
Dikulz comes out swinging, with quick-flowing lyricism on ‘Go Harder’. A jabbing delivery with powerful wordplay that punish his opponents, he makes it seem like light work on the pounding production, gradually picking up energy throughout the three verses, to take W.
‘Rapscallion’ is a slight diversion from the trapesque vibe introduced on the EP. B Beats provides a boom-bap, almost slasher-like, Horrorcore-themed production, which Dikulz compliments with sauntering flows. With the swagger of Jason Voorhees himself, Dikulz directs his own horror, slaying enemies with titanic lyricism.
‘Tata Tiktok’ is the other track on which B Beatz features on production. Another sauntering, yet hypnotic trapesque beat, on which Dikulz tones down the energy for the finale. In my opinion, this track is a dismissal of those few artists deemed basic and to be talking soft. ‘Tiktok is also the platform for sharing short ‘Karaoke’ music videos, popular with the new generation in particular.
Taking you back to ‘Wise Up’, the first track which was released from the EP, Dikulz teams up with Prodlem for a heavy-hitting banger featuring legendary West Coast rapper X-Raided (Bloc Star Entertainment) and fellow label mate C. Ray. Dikulz and X-Raided go in with fast-paced flows, providing wisdom through their own teachings, encouraging others not to give up on their hustle, to wise up and stand out from a system that sets you up to fail. C. Ray provides a melodic chorus, ensuring this song is brimming with finesse.
Known for his social commentary, Dikulz weighs in on his opinion of social media, Instagram in particular. On ‘Gram Illusion’, Dikulz places the culture of social media under the microscope, questioning what good it does us, both consumer and user. A platform that many use to measure popularity by likes and follows, some fake it until they make it, possibly with no apparent talent. The hypnotic melody of the beat coupled with Dikulz’ delivery, especially on the hook, adds to the idea of society being hypnotized.
Prodlem’s final production credit comes on ‘I’m At Cha’, keeping the heat coming as Dikulz, Bleezo and Twisted Insane bring the lyrical slaughter, chopping on the pounding beat with differing rhyming patterns.
The eponymous EP by Dikulz has been revealed to be Pt. 1 of two instalments, Pt. 2 following up in February 2020, entitled ‘Dikulz Pt. Duh’. Dikulz will will no doubt come with the heat once again. ‘Dikulz Pt. 1’ is now available to stream on all major platforms now, and be sure to look out for the hard copies of both EP’s,which you can collect to complete a full image, designed by Redikulus Concepts aka Dikulz.
