For the first time in over a decade, pioneering Grime collective Meridian Crew have reunited for a new single ‘Man In Meridian’, with original members Bossman Birdie, JME, Big H, President T and Paper Pabs. Produced by Dre Minor, the single rejuvenates an iconic grime moment from a pirate radio grime set from the early 2000’s, where the crew performed a freestyle titled ‘Man In Meridian’, the first freestyle they performed together after Bossman Birdie returned home. The new track firmly cements that legendary moment into Grime history, and as a song that can be remembered for many years.

The chorus samples the original freestyle, whilst the production by Dre Minor samples ‘Blinded By The Lights’ by The Streets, which Meridian Crew originally freestyled over. Each artist on the new song adds their own unique, differing flows and styles, coming together to create a masterpiece which celebrates their part in the Grime culture, as well as embodying the essence of Grime. The original leaders of the genre have returned, with more respect and success between them, and as seasoned pros, to deliver a modern twist on a historic moment that evokes feelings of nostalgia.

The visuals, directed by Coldshots, are filmed on the Meridian Estate, where it all began all those years ago for the crew, which brings the song full circle. It represents the origins of the Grime sound we hear today, that kicked off on the London Underground scene in the early 2000’s, and showcases to a new audience, and reminds the rest of us, how monumental the movement was and remains today.

When speaking on the new release, Bossman Birdie says “‘Man In Meridian’ is one of the most important grime tracks to come out of the genre to date. It’s the essence of the culture and the first time you get to hear 90% of Meridian together swinging it out on the same record. With everyone locked into their own solo endeavours, it was a madness getting the verses over the line. But we all wanted to give the fans something sick for the support over the years. This is the start of some much-needed fire to come from this legendary collective.”
