UK Hip Hop Lyricist Je Spesh unleashes his new EP “Battle Spirit”, a 7-track EP also produced by TE1 Productions. The North West London Rapper is known for no nensense lyricism and uniqye story telling ability, and he displays that to the fullest on the “Battle Spirit” EP. The tite track is a soulfully sampled tune produced by A.C Layne of TE1 Productions, featuring immense wordpay from Joe Spesh as he showcases a battle spirit mentaility, depicting a fighting mentality stemming from the living circumstances he is born in to.
‘Days Of Reflection’ is the kind of thumping production with a chilled melody that you could listen to come the sum,mer months. And Joe Spesh employs his story telling skills, as he reflects on days gone cruising the streets and always getting involved in some endeavour. ‘War Stance’ is another track just like the previous on which Joe Spesh showcases his lyrical prowess, rhyming over a thudding beat with a Western-style melody, and he does ride out on the instrumental. Joe spits through the eyes of a warrior in war.
A.C Layne’s production continues to be soulful and Jazz-influenced, and with ‘I Know’ which features Magevizo, Pariz1 and Kyza Smirnoff, the four MC’s flow as smooth as water over the chopped up samples and wavey beat. This track sees the four take it back to raw spitting, the art of verbal sparring. ‘Not Runnin” samples Notorious B.I.G’s Warning, and features Mas Man. Joe Spesh and Mas Man deliver cold, chilling lyrics that talk to those that run their mouths, coming at them with intellectual wordplay and in war mode. The chorus features vocal chants that accentuate the battle spirit theme on the EP. Production on ‘The Process’ is very 70’s based R&B and Soul influenced, with a compact drum beat and groovy synths and horns. Once again, Joe Spesh displays lyrical prowess. Pariz1 joins Joe Spesh again on ‘Truth’, a track on which both rappers attack keyboard warriors and those that spread lies, as they themselves spt nothing but the truth.
“Battle Spirit” is a superb project from Joe Spesh, with top-notch production that is heavily influenced by Soul and R&B, epecially of the 70s era. Joe Spesh doesn’t dissappoint as he displays lyrical prowess, tells intriguing stories and paints a vivid picture of many a battle. Joe’s wordplay is incredible, many of the tracks using metaphors to represent Joe’s world as a battle field. Joe Spesh leads the charge on battle with forceful delivery and strong flows.
